# IBKR (Trans): Dividend to $0.60; Bets on RIAs and AI trading

**Dolphin Research Trans of** $Interactive Brokers(IBKR.US) **FY26 Q3 earnings call**

**I. Results highlights**

1\. **Shareholder returns**: The annualized dividend was raised to $0.60 from $0.35. Management reiterated its payout guideline of 0.5%–1% of market cap, noting the increase is a catch-up as prior payouts lagged, and intends to stick with this range going forward. The company has no long-term debt, and shareholders' equity rose 19% YoY to $23.3 bn.

2\. **Rate sensitivity guide** (baseline: Fed effective rate at 3.88% on Sep 30 and balances as of that date) a. USD: For each 25 bps move in the Fed funds rate, annualized NII moves by +/- $83 mn.b. Non-USD: Roughly 30% of client rate-sensitive balances are non-USD; for each 25 bps move in the relevant benchmarks, annualized NII moves by +/- $35 mn.c. Any growth in the balance sheet and interest-earning assets would magnify the above effects.

3\. **NII drivers and outlook**a. GAAP NII was slightly above $1.1 bn, +19% YoY. On a NIM basis, NII was $1.2 bn, also +19% YoY, with NIM including interest-like income that GAAP classifies under other fees and services and other income.b. YoY, the Avg. Fed funds rate fell 63 bps (-15%), yet margin loan interest rose ~30% and segregated cash interest rose 4%, as balance growth offset rate declines.c. Multiple central banks hiked in Sep, delivering only a modest benefit in Q3, with the main impact to show in Q4. The investment portfolio's Avg. duration remains under 30 days; with the USD curve higher at the front end, duration was lengthened slightly while keeping tight asset-liability maturity matching.d. All-in securities lending net income (incl. interest paid/received on cash collateral) was $426 mn, +36% YoY. On a reported basis, securities lending net interest was below last year's unusually high comp.

4\. **Key financial metrics this quarter**a. Aggregate: Pre-tax profit hit a record, with both reported and Adj. pre-tax margin at 78%. Compensation expense was $167 mn, equal to 9% of Adj. net revenue and flat vs. last year, and headcount stood at 3,286 at end-Sep.b. Revenue: Commissions were $602 mn, +12% YoY and above $600 mn for a third straight quarter. Other fees and services were $88 mn, +33% YoY, driven by higher exposure fees, market data fees and mandated option exchange payment-for-order-flow programs; other income ex non-core items was $28 mn.c. Costs: Execution, clearing and distribution costs were $134 mn, up $42 mn (+46%) YoY, mainly on the SEC regulatory fee reinstatement (zero in the prior-year quarter vs. $30 mn this quarter), which is a pass-through that lifts both commissions and execution costs without impacting profit.e. Trading GP and expenses: Excluding $28 mn of non-trading costs, execution and clearing costs were 17% of commissions, implying an 83% trading GPM. SG&A was $78 mn, up YoY primarily on increased advertising.f. Taxes and assets: Income tax was $148 mn ($60 mn at the listed HoldCo + $88 mn at the operating company), with the listed company effective tax rate at 16%. Total assets rose 21% YoY to $243 bn, with client credit balances at a record; fully rate-sensitive client balances were $27.8 bn (vs. $25.0 bn a year ago).

**II. Earnings call details**

**2.1 Management highlights**

1\. **Clients and trading activity**a. Accounts grew over 30% YoY across both institutional and individual clients and across regions. The most active names remain global tech stocks, and Intl investors show demand for direct holdings and low-cost USD FX conversion.b. Trading activity slowed slightly vs. Q2: DARTs were 4.3 mn, +18% YoY. Futures volumes were +13% YoY, options dipped slightly, and stock share volumes were -24% YoY, mainly due to lower trading in low-priced stocks as clients shifted to larger, higher-quality names.c. Commission per trade was $2.59, -4% YoY, reflecting smaller ticket sizes across products.d. Night trading continued to climb from 3.5 mn trades in Q3 last year to over 10 mn this quarter.

2\. **New markets and products**a. New venues: The Texas Stock Exchange now averages ~2.5 mn shares/day. IBKR also connected a new options venue aimed at large institutional orders to improve liquidity.b. In Brazil, IBKR added B3 financial indices, crypto and commodity futures, and rolled out crypto staking on a limited basis.c. In Japan, IBKR launched margin financing, a fully paid securities lending program, and Gaika Plus, an in-house product that lets Japanese clients earn interest on non-JPY cash balances.d. In prediction markets, IBKR introduced 15-minute and hourly event contracts across crypto, metals and energy, boosting platform engagement.

3\. **AI initiatives**a. The AI Connector added account-level P&L, alert management and watchlists, and extended trading capabilities to two-leg options strategies.b. Autonomous AI trading: Eligible clients can connect any MCP-compatible AI Agent to their IBKR account and authorize autonomous trading, creating and funding an isolated sub-account within their existing account without opening a new one. It supports global stocks and options across day, night and combined sessions, and is live in several countries.c. Internal AI: Customer support tools can pull data across internal systems and run initial analyses; onboarding, compliance and surveillance have introduced AI/ML to support growth in new clients and new exchanges.

4\. **RIAs and Introducing Brokers (IBs)**a. Launched tax-aware long/short strategies for RIAs, leveraging margin, shorting and securities lending, aligned with IBKR's long-standing prime brokerage strengths. Other brokers place limits on such strategies; IBKR sees rising interest, has onboarded three providers and will add more by year-end and early next year.b. The IB pipeline is similar to last quarter, with a growing pool of prospects; new IBs continue to go live while existing IBs grow. A listed Korean broker launched a global securities trading platform this quarter on IBKR's tech and trading infrastructure.

**2.2 Q&A**

**Q: With the dividend raised to $0.60 from $0.35, how did the BOD determine the size, and does this imply a new payout framework (target ratio or excess capital threshold)?**

A: **Management continues to follow the 0.5%–1% of market cap guideline, and this hike is a catch-up.** Future payouts will adhere to that range.

**Q: Ads drove SG&A growth. You joined X Cashtags in Sep and offered a $100 funding bonus; how are early results, and does this mean heavier digital acquisition?**

A: **Yes, IBKR is leaning into digital acquisition, but it will take time to calibrate, and early results are mixed.** Recently acquired clients trade more, but the number of new clients is smaller.

**Q: Among key regions, where is the largest headroom for account share gains and the lowest penetration?**

A: **No single region was singled out; both mature and new markets offer ample runway.** IBKR's advantage is a single, highly automated global platform that adapts quickly to local rules and needs without building country-by-country operations, serving both individual investors and institutions/intermediaries, and expanding without materially higher costs.

**Q: What is the current scale of tax-aware long/short strategies for RIAs, and your expectations?**

A: **Assets were about $300 mn at quarter-end, IBKR is just beginning to attract this client segment, and expectations are high.** IBKR is working with three to four providers, including AQR, and adding more; RIAs are signing on, though at a slower pace than IBKR expected, and IBKR's low financing costs, large borrow pool and automation help scale what other brokers restrict.

**Q: Activity slowed; do you see any client type or region with sustained weakness or cause for concern?**

A: **No concerns; Q2 benefited in part from IPO-related trading.** Some IPOs slated for this quarter were delayed, and IBKR expects volatility to rise heading into the midterms, which typically lifts client trading.

**Q: After launching margin and other products in Japan, what are adoption and potential contribution?**

A: **No quantified guidance; the priority is moving Japanese resident accounts from the US affiliate to the Japan subsidiary.** IBKR is working with regulators and has invested heavily to offer margin compliantly; it recently rolled out Passkey-based two-factor auth against phishing, and is focused on speeding onboarding and making KYC as digital as possible.

There is more work to do in Japan, after which IBKR expects to be fully competitive. Challenges include a difficult business environment and a highly homogeneous culture, and IBKR hopes younger investors will be more receptive to foreign brokers.

**Q: RIA business update: which RIAs are on the platform, what new types are you attracting, and can you consolidate share from multi-custodian RIAs?**

A: **Tax-aware products are mainly held by financial advisors and suit large accounts, and IBKR has high expectations for this segment.** Beyond tax-aware portfolios, IBKR is building tooling to simplify RIA onboarding and plans to significantly enhance integrations with multi-custodian platforms so advisors working with competitors will shift some business to IBKR.

**Q: For new products like binary options and single-stock futures, and Cboe's newly approved single-stock KPI contracts, what do you expect for adoption?**

A: **IBKR does not yet know when Cboe's products will go live, possibly by month-end, and is working on connectivity.** Management believes prediction markets will welcome single-stock KPI contracts and aims to offer them to clients, but did not provide adoption forecasts.

**Q: Fidelity set a $100 mn minimum AUM for RIAs (effective mid next year). Will this drive more small RIA demand, and can IBKR consolidate share?**

A: **IBKR agrees it is an obvious destination for these RIAs.** RIAs under $100 mn AUM must find new custodians, with roughly nine months until the rule takes effect, making simplified RIA onboarding and related work especially critical as IBKR targets these advisors.

**Q: How does the IB pipeline trend vs. 6 or 12 months ago?**

A: **Similar to recent quarters, with numerous integrations in the pipeline or underway, and some already live.** The edge is a full-stack solution from onboarding and front-end platforms to execution, corporate actions and clearing/custody, with global multi-asset coverage, and new markets, asset classes and features from the direct biz. are almost simultaneously available to IB clients.

**Q: For autonomous AI trading, what share of clients qualify, and will AI tools structurally lift trades per account?**

A: **IBKR invited 3,000 clients in recent days and will broaden invites over the next few weeks, and expects AI to lift trading volumes.** The first wave is limited to users of the 'human-in-the-loop' AI Connector, and this number will rise sharply as clients grow comfortable with AI decisioning and top investors handle more information, track more companies and execute strategies more easily.

**Q: After connecting more prediction markets, how are progress and adoption?**

A: **IBKR covers three venues, including CME and ForecastEx, and is integrating Polymarket.** Integration is meeting expectations, overall volumes are up, and clients get broader products, deeper liquidity and better pricing.

**Q: If a market cap pullback pushes the dividend yield above the range, would you cut the dividend or wait for market cap to recover?**

A: **IBKR does not expect to cut the dividend, under any foreseeable scenario at least for now.**

**Q: Margin balance yield rose markedly QoQ; how much was from benchmark changes vs. mix, and is it sustainable?**

A: **Both factors contributed, but the primary driver was margin balances themselves at +47% YoY and +8% QoQ.** Currency mix and central bank actions also played roles, with non-USD contributing more than last year; IBKR did not comment on yield sustainability.

**Q: For tax-aware strategies for RIAs, is the economics similar to existing margin lending and securities lending?**

A: **Economics are similar to the rates offered to large balances and large accounts today.**

**Q: After adding more prediction markets and Cboe KPI contracts, will you adjust the UI?**

A: **IBKR will integrate Cboe's KPI contracts into the existing prediction market UI and also make them available in the standard options UI.** The current prediction market UI covers ForecastEx and CME products, which are CFTC-regulated swaps; Cboe's KPI contracts are binary options with the same payout, but exist as separable calls and puts that are not bound to each other, and their prices may sum to more or less than $1, which cannot occur in CFTC markets.IBKR will bind the two and display them in the options UI, similar to existing Cboe index binary options.

**Q: This quarter, trades per account fell to a multi-quarter low; was the slowdown broad-based or concentrated?**

A: **It was broad-based.**

**Q: Beyond Japan's margin and securities lending, are there similar expansion opportunities in other major markets?**

A: **Yes, but IBKR prefers not to disclose to avoid revealing its roadmap to competitors.** IBKR will announce when products are ready.
