BP p.l.c. Sponsored ADR is a comprehensive oil and gas company. Its business is divided into three parts: upstream, downstream, and Rosneft. The upstream sector is engaged in oil and gas exploration, field development, and production; midstream transportation, storage, and processing; and the sale and trade of natural gas, including liquefied natural gas, electricity, and liquefied natural gas. It also owns and manages crude oil and natural gas pipelines; processing facilities and export terminals; LNG processing facilities and transport; and NGL extraction operations. The downstream sector refines, produces, sells, transports, supplies, and trades crude oil, petroleum and petrochemical products, and related services for wholesale and retail customers. It provides lubricants and related products for the automotive, industrial, marine, and energy markets under the Castrol, BP p.l.c. Sponsored ADR, and Xinhai brands; and petrochemical products such as terephthalic acid, xylene, acetic acid, olefins and derivatives, and specialty petrochemical products. Rosneft is engaged in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the United States, Canada, Vietnam, Venezuela, Brazil, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Turkmenistan, and Norway; and provides jet fuel, fuel supply, asphalt and lubricants. The company also produces bioethanol, sugar, and biobutanol; supplies electricity to local grids; and transports hydrocarbon products through transport and chartering services. The company was founded by William Knox Darcy in 1908 and is headquartered in London, UK.
