A few days after quarantine started, Hannah Berner made a meme that she now regrets a bit, one of a tweet reading: “I don’t know what’s worse, the spreading of Coronavirus or people being forced to be alone with their own thoughts?”

“When I posted that at first, I was like, ‘This is hilarious!’ But this was before people were getting really sick,” she says. “Now I look at it, and I see it as a little tone deaf. But I love to honestly talk about mental health. I do think that we have to address that. It's something that a lot of people are having a really difficult time with.”

Her audience seems to get where she’s coming from: @beingbernz, the Instagram meme page she created three years ago, is now close to 320,000 followers. And “Instagram is just one part of my different mediums,” she says. “This actually evolved from sending a risky, flirty text to a guy who I wasn’t sure if he would reciprocate. After one minute, it felt like forever—felt like I was running on a treadmill. Here, Berner and her parents try to complete a TikTok trend where they dance out to the opening beats of The Weeknd’s synth-pop hit “Blinding Lights.” “My dad quit three times during it where he sat on the couch.” That wasn’t an option, Berner told him, since the trend required at least three people. “It probably took us 30 to 35 takes. We kind of just went with that last one because we just couldn’t do another.”
