# Renaissance Technologies buys Gamestop, AMC in Q1 - filing

> By Carolina MandlNEW YORK, May 15 (Reuters) - Hedge fund Renaissance Technologies built a new position of over 1 million shares in Gamestop in the first quarter ahead of a recent rally, according to a securities filing on May 13.The hedge fund also increased its stake in the cinema chain AMCby 78%, to 8.7 million shares. Both shares rallied earlier this week, reviving for some days the 2021 meme stock frenzy.

NEW YORK, May 15 (Reuters) - Hedge fund Renaissance Technologies built a new position of over 1 million shares in Gamestop in the first quarter ahead of a recent rally, according to a securities filing on May 13.

The hedge fund also increased its stake in the cinema chain AMC (AMC.N) by 78%, to 8.7 million shares. Both shares rallied earlier this week, reviving for some days the 2021 meme stock frenzy.
