# Lyondell Basell Houston, Texas oil refinery reports fire

Aug 29 (Reuters) - Chemical maker Lyondell Basell (LYB.N) on Thursday reported that it is responding to a fire at its 263,776 barrel-per-day Houston, Texas, oil refinery, according to a community alert.

The fire is confined within a unit at the facility and there is no need for action by the community, it added.

The company declined to provide specific details about the incident due to competitive reasons.

The refinery also issued all clear for a process upset incident that had occurred the same day and noted that flaring was ongoing, as per the alert.

Earlier this month, Lyondell Basell CEO Peter Vanacker said in a conference call that the company plans to operate Houston refinery at 90% capacity in the third quarter of 2024, while continuing with its plan to permanently shut the refinery by the end of the first quarter of next year.
