This follows Kia's adoption of the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) alongside Hyundai. Kia will also provide NACS adapters for the EV6 and EV9 models, enhancing access to 16,500 Tesla Superchargers in North America. This move aims to improve the ownership experience for Kia EV customers by significantly increasing available charging points. Kia has revealed the date its electric vehicle drivers will be able to gain access to Tesla Superchargers, as well as other details related to the use of the expansive EV charging network. Last October, Kia announced that it, as well as Hyundai, would adopt the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS). The move was one that many automotive manufacturers made last year as it became abundantly clear Tesla was the overall leader in charging infrastructure, especially in the U.S. and Canada. > Tesla gets its newest adoptees of NACS in Hyundai and Kia However, companies have been gaining access in a staggered manner, with Ford being the first major automaker to have access to Tesla Superchargers with its EVs. General Motors started using Superchargers just last week. This leads us to wonder, “When will others be able to use Tesla Supercharger piles in the U.S. and Canada?” Kia answered the question this morning. The company will gain access to Tesla Superchargers on January 15, 2025, it said. It will also soon start offering NACS adapters for the EV6 and EV9, and any buyer who takes delivery from September 4 and later will receive it free of charge. > Hyundai IONIQ 5 & Kia EV6 spotted with Tesla NACS port at Supercharger The adapter will enable access to 16,500 Tesla Superchargers in the U.S., the company said. Eric Watson, VP of Sales Ops for Kia America, commented on the announcement: *As a leader in electrified mobility, it’s important Kia provide our EV customers the best ownership experience possible, and offering NACS adapters is a great way to open up a vast number of charge points across North America, expanding Kia-accessible DC charge points by more than 83 percent. Kia EVs are known for their range, with the EV6 RWD Light Long Range traveling an EPA-estimated 310 miles on a full charge. Now, with access to this sprawling network of DC fast chargers, our EV owners can feel even more confident in their ability to reach far-flung destinations on electricity.”* Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro EV customers who took delivery before September 4 will be able to access an adapter at a later date, the company said. *I’d love to hear from you!
