# The Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, and three other countries oppose the EU's 2025 budget

> The Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark expressed dissatisfaction with the EU's 2025 budget agreement and plan to abstain in the upcoming vote, which is seen as opposition. The five countries believe that the budget policy is being implemented irresponsibly, especially the Netherlands and Sweden as net payers. EU Commissioner for Budget Johannes Hahn stated that the budget will help address urgent crises but did not take measures against high interest rates

On the 17th, local time, reporters learned that the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark were dissatisfied with the previously reached EU 2025 budget agreement. According to the procedure, the budget proposal will be approved by the EU Council and the European Parliament within 14 days of reaching an agreement. It is understood that in the upcoming vote, the aforementioned countries will abstain. According to EU procedural rules, abstentions will be considered as opposition. These five member states believe that the execution of the EU's budget policy is irresponsible. The Netherlands and Sweden are net contributors to the EU budget. EU Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn previously stated that this budget would enable the EU to implement political priorities and respond to "emergency crises" both internally and externally. The budget allocates additional funds to policy areas, which are paid for with funds originally intended for unforeseen expenditures.
