# The price of cabbage in Japan has skyrocketed, with the public exclaiming "more expensive than meat!"

On August 8, Japanese media reported that vegetable prices in Japan have been continuously rising recently, with cabbage prices seeing particularly high increases, with some supermarkets selling individual cabbages for over 1,000 yen. Many citizens exclaimed that this price is "more expensive than meat," joking that cabbage has transformed into a "high-end ingredient." According to statistics from Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, as of the 5th, among the 14 types of vegetables monitored at the Tokyo Central Wholesale Market, 13 types have prices higher than in previous years.
