On January 16th, Jinshi Data reported that on January 16th, the Shanghai Municipal Cyberspace Administration, in conjunction with the Municipal Communications Administration, held the second algorithm governance classification guidance meeting focusing on personalized recommendation algorithms. The meeting urged and guided local website platforms to optimize algorithm recommendation mechanisms, enrich the "toolbox" for breaking the "information cocoon," protect the legitimate rights and interests of internet users, and promote the positive and beneficial application of algorithms. Relevant leaders from 20 key platforms, including Xiaohongshu, Bilibili, Ximalaya, Hupu, and Qutoutiao, attended the meeting. The meeting pointed out the need to continuously optimize algorithm services aimed at minors and the elderly, effectively preventing issues such as user addiction and excessive consumption. It emphasized strengthening user rights protection, prohibiting the collection of users' personal information beyond the necessary scope for content recommendation; ensuring users can easily turn off algorithm recommendation services; and supporting users in self-regulating the categories of recommended content through features like the "not interested" button and interest tag management, truly putting the "algorithm switch" in the hands of users
