# Two departments jointly issued coking standards to improve the comprehensive governance level of the industry

On the 20th, Pei Xiaofei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, stated at a regular press conference that recently, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly issued the "Emission Standards for Air Pollutants in the Coking Chemical Industry," replacing the "Emission Standards for Pollutants in the Coking Chemical Industry" released in 2012. This new standard further meets the current production realities and environmental management needs of the industry, enhances the comprehensive governance level of the industry, and promotes high-quality development. The new standard focuses on key issues in the industry that need urgent resolution, and has been revised mainly in four areas: organized emission control, unorganized emission control, bypass and emergency emission outlet control, and monitoring and compliance determination. "It is expected that after the implementation of the standard, emissions of particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds from the coking industry can be reduced by 50%, 40%, 70%, and 50%, respectively." New enterprises will start to implement the requirements of the standard three months after establishment, while existing enterprises will be given a two-year transition period, with implementation starting from January 1, 2027. Currently, each limit value and measure requirement of the standard has mature and feasible technology, and about 80% of the national coking capacity has already implemented the current standard special emission limits or stricter local standards, with most enterprises requiring only minor engineering modifications after the revision
