# Length of Inaugural Addresses by U.S. Presidents

Trump's inauguration speech on Monday was about twice as long as his 2017 speech, focusing on immigration, the economy, and cultural policy.

Since George Washington, every U.S. president has delivered an inaugural address.

William Henry Harrison delivered the longest speech in 1841, lasting 8,445 words. A month later, he died of pneumonia, which some say was caused by exposure to harsh weather during the ceremony.

Washington's second inaugural address was the shortest, at only 135 words. The committee noted that Franklin D. Roosevelt's fourth inaugural address in 1945 followed closely, with only 559 words.

The total fundraising for this Trump inauguration is expected to exceed all previous ceremonies. Contributions from companies like Meta, Apple, OpenAI, Uber, and Amazon are seen as efforts to establish connections with the new government. (Axios)
