# IATA: In November 2024, total air passenger demand increased by 8.1% year-on-year

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has disclosed the air passenger market data for November 2024. The total demand for air passenger transport (measured in RPKs, revenue passenger kilometers) increased by 8.1% year-on-year compared to November 2023. Total capacity (measured in ASKs, available seat kilometers) grew by 5.7% year-on-year. The passenger load factor in November was 83.4%, an increase of 1.9 percentage points compared to November 2023, marking the highest level for November in history.

It is reported that international demand increased by 11.6% year-on-year compared to November 2023. Capacity grew by 8.6%, with a passenger load factor of 83.4%, up 2.3 percentage points year-on-year compared to November 2023. Airlines in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region showed strong demand, driving global air passenger demand to achieve double-digit growth. Domestic demand increased by 3.1% year-on-year compared to November 2023. Capacity grew by 1.5%, with a passenger load factor of 83.5%, up 1.2 percentage points year-on-year compared to November 2023.

Specifically, in the international passenger market for November 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, all regions saw growth in the international passenger market. The European region had the highest load factor (85.0%), while the Asia-Pacific region's demand grew by 19.9%, leading the growth. Domestic passenger demand increased by 3.1% year-on-year compared to last year, slightly slowing down from October (which saw a growth of 3.5%). Other markets, except for the United States, showed stable growth, while domestic passenger demand in the U.S. decreased by 2.7%, higher than the year-on-year decline in October (which was down 1.2%). Since June 2024, low-cost airlines have seen a decline in operations, and the U.S. domestic market has shown signs of slowing down. However, during the same period, U.S. mainline airlines continued to grow.

**Mr. Willie Walsh, Chairman of the International Air Transport Association**, stated: "The demand for air travel in November grew strongly, with an overall year-on-year increase of 8.1%. The capacity growth lagged behind demand by 2.4 percentage points, and the load factor is at a historical high. This data once again highlights that supply chain issues continue to hinder airlines from meeting the rising market demand. Due to delays in aircraft deliveries, airlines have missed opportunities to enhance customer service, modernize products, and improve environmental sustainability. In 2025, it is essential to seek quick and lasting solutions to the supply chain issues facing the aviation manufacturing industry."
