Trudeau stated that Canada will begin taxing goods worth CAD 30 billion starting Tuesday (February 4) and will impose tariffs on the remaining CAD 125 billion of U.S. products within 21 days.
Canada will impose tariffs on consumer products such as beer, wine, food, and household appliances from the U.S., and is considering measures on critical minerals. Trudeau mentioned that the tariffs will have a real impact on the American public, criticizing the tariffs as a violation of the free trade agreement between the two countries, and believes that a better option for the U.S. is to cooperate with Canada rather than punish it.
