Citizens report abnormal gas charges; officials: Chongqing Gas Group's rectification is inadequate, plans to impose a heavy fine of 8.1 million
The Chongqing Municipal Market Supervision Administration released a report on the investigation of gas charging issues by Chongqing Gas Group: Since January 2025, citizens have continuously reported abnormal gas charges by Chongqing Gas Group. After investigation, since the issue of overcharging gas fees by Chongqing Gas Group was addressed in April 2024, the company has not deeply learned from the lessons, and the implementation of rectification responsibilities has been inadequate, with rectification work being superficial and ineffective. Currently, there are still issues such as chaotic meter reading cycles, illegal estimations, incorrect readings, and insufficient meter reading personnel, which infringe upon consumers' legitimate rights and interests; no issues of price gouging, inaccurate gas meter measurements, gas quality problems, remote control altering gas meter measurements, or meter replacements leading to increased gas fees have been found. The market supervision department intends to impose severe penalties for its illegal activities in accordance with the law, ordering Chongqing Gas Group to rectify immediately, with a proposed total fine of 8.1 million yuan.
