# The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Medicine adds "Research Transformation and Entrepreneurship" to promote interactive cooperation between industry, academia, and research investment

The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Medicine stated that the country is actively promoting Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub. The Faculty will leverage its experience and advantages in the field of innovation and technology to fully support the transformation of various research outcomes, promote knowledge transfer, and benefit society.

The Faculty of Medicine held a media spring gathering, indicating that three innovation and technology research centers have already launched their second five-year development plan. Recently, they added "Research Transformation and Entrepreneurship" to promote interactive cooperation between industry, academia, and research investment, establish a sustainable innovation ecosystem, transform and commercialize outstanding research outcomes, and facilitate the birth of startups. Future plans include organizing workshops to share knowledge and experience on patent applications and intellectual property with faculty and graduate students, as well as incorporating foundational knowledge of "Research Transformation and Entrepreneurship" into undergraduate and graduate courses, allowing medical students and graduates to cultivate an understanding of research and intellectual property during their studies.

The Faculty of Medicine mentioned that over the past 10 years, it has successfully nurtured many physician-scientists who have engaged in medical research. A total of 46 students have been awarded the "Innovation and Technology Scholarship," recognizing their enthusiasm for innovation and technology, accounting for over 18% of the total number of awardees during the same period, making it the highest among the eight major universities in Hong Kong. The Faculty's "Clinical Medicine" ranks 14th globally and has been crowned the best in Asia for two consecutive years, being the only medical school in the top 50 located in Asia. It has also risen to 28th globally in the QS 2024 rankings, making it the top in Hong Kong and second in Asia.

Additionally, the Faculty of Medicine collaborates with the Hospital Authority to manage the biobank within the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Clinical Trial Center," which can store over 400,000 samples. The Faculty is also actively establishing an ecosystem for medical services and innovation in the Greater Bay Area, successfully forming partnerships with various stakeholders, including hospitals, research institutions, academic institutions, investors, and the medical industry.

The Faculty of Medicine pointed out that a new teaching and research building broke ground last year and is expected to be completed in 2027. After its completion, the annual enrollment capacity will increase to 400 medical students and 330 nursing students. The teaching facilities will be equipped with cutting-edge research capabilities, accommodating over 80 research teams and approximately 1,000 researchers, further enhancing the academic and innovative level of the Faculty
