# Canadian stock indices turned lower, with electricity and steel stocks declining. The Dow Jones fell more than 1.1%, and the S&P Steel Index and Dow Jones Steel Index gave back their gains

The Canadian stock index turned down, approaching 24,360 points, moving away from the daily high of 24,493.46 points refreshed after the release of U.S. job vacancy data and before Trump doubled the Canadian steel and aluminum tariffs to 50%.

Among the constituent stocks, Tilray Brands fell 5.79%, Telus dropped 2.89%, BRP decreased by 2.53%, Algoma Steel Group declined 2.14%, and Algonquin Power fell 1.99%, ranking fifth from the bottom, while Capstone Copper rose 7.74%, the second largest increase, and Aya Gold and Silver increased by 13.33%.

The S&P 500 index fell more than 0.8%, the Dow Jones dropped 470 points, a decrease of 1.12%, the Nasdaq fell 0.57%, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 1.5%, and the Bank Index fell 1.1%.

The S&P 500 Steel Index's increase narrowed to less than 1.6%, and the Dow Jones U.S. Steel Index's increase narrowed to 0.7%
