# Microsoft will launch three data centers in Malaysia in mid-year

> Microsoft plans to launch its first cloud region in Malaysia in mid-2025, equipped with three data centers, investing $2.2 billion. The data centers will be located in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area, expected to create over 37,000 jobs and bring $10.9 billion in revenue to Malaysia. Microsoft stated that all projects are progressing as planned and are not affected by U.S. semiconductor export controls

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Microsoft (MSFT.US) announced on Thursday that it will launch its first cloud region in Malaysia in mid-2025, equipped with three data centers. Nearly a year ago, the tech giant announced an investment of $2.2 billion in this Southeast Asian country.

Laurence Si, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia, stated at a press conference that these data centers, referred to as "Western Malaysia Cloud," will be located in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area and are scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter.

Microsoft did not disclose the specific capacity of these data centers.

When asked if Microsoft faces any issues exporting chips to Malaysia due to U.S. export controls on semiconductor chips, Si stated that the company is closely monitoring the situation.

He said, "Everything is normal for us at the moment. We maintain good relationships with all stakeholders. All projects we plan to invest in and launch in the region are progressing as scheduled."

In May last year, Microsoft announced it would invest $2.2 billion over the next four years to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence services in Malaysia.

Si stated that Microsoft expects its commitments in Malaysia over the next four years to generate $10.9 billion in revenue and create over 37,000 jobs.

"Local businesses and organizations will be able to innovate more quickly and securely, driving Malaysia towards its goal of becoming a growth center for cloud and artificial intelligence in Southeast Asia," he said
