# Eli Lilly's Class 1 new drug imlunestrant tablets have had their application for market approval accepted in China for the treatment of breast cancer

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, **today (April 8), the official website of the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of the National Medical Products Administration of China announced that the application for the marketing of the Class 1 new drug imlunestrant tablets submitted by Eli Lilly (LLY.US) (Eli Lilly and Company) has been accepted.** Public information shows that this is an oral selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) under research by Eli Lilly. The Phase 3 clinical study of this product for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive (ER+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) advanced breast cancer patients has previously achieved positive results.

In recent years, protein degradation therapy targeting ER has begun to become an important treatment model for breast cancer. Selective estrogen receptor degraders (SERDs) bind to ER and induce structural changes in ER, allowing E3 ubiquitin ligases in the cell to better recognize ER and label it as "garbage," ultimately leading to ER being sent to the cell's proteasome for degradation.

Imlunestrant is a small molecule SERD drug that can cross the blood-brain barrier. Its design goal is to continuously inhibit the activity of the ER target throughout the administration period, regardless of the ESR1 mutation status. ESR1 mutations are the main variant form of endocrine therapy resistance in breast cancer patients, with an incidence rate of 20% to 50% in advanced breast cancer patients, especially those who have previously received aromatase inhibitor treatment
