In contrast, China's overall smartphone shipments grew by 3.3%, driven by government subsidies and the Spring Festival sales peak. Xiaomi led the market with a 40% increase in shipments, followed by Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo with respective growths of 10%, 3.3%, and 2.3%. Xiaomi's shares rose slightly by less than 2%. Apple's smartphone shipments in China slid 9% year on year to 9.8 million units in the first quarter, according to data from the International Data Corporation on April 17. US technology giant Apple is the fifth of China's top five smartphone makers. It was the only brand that recorded a decline during the period. China's smartphone shipments climbed 3.3% year on year. The growth was driven by government subsidies that were extended to smartphones in January, as well as a peak sales season of the Spring Festival, the IDC said. Leading the Chinese smartphone market is Xiaomi , whose shipments jumped 40% to 13.3 million units. It was followed by Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo, which rose 10%, 3.3%, and 2.3% year on year, respectively.
