The 910C chip integrates two 910B processors through advanced packaging technology, offering performance comparable to Nvidia's H100, with computing power and memory capacity both twice that of the 910B. Huawei has distributed 910C samples to several technology companies and has begun accepting orders Reuters, April 21 - Two insiders revealed that Huawei (HWT.UL) plans to begin large-scale shipments of its advanced artificial intelligence chip Ascend 910C to Chinese customers as early as next month. They stated that some shipments have already begun. This timing is perfect for Chinese AI companies that urgently need domestic alternatives due to restrictions in the United States. These companies had previously relied on Nvidia's H20 chip, which was still freely sold in the Chinese market until recently. However, the Trump administration in the U.S. has notified Nvidia this month that future sales of the H20 chip will require an export license. According to one of the two sources and a third person familiar with chip design, Huawei's 910C is a graphics processing unit (GPU) that, while not a technological breakthrough, represents an architectural evolution. The chip integrates two 910B processors into a single module through advanced packaging technology, allowing it to achieve performance comparable to Nvidia's H100 chip. In other words, the computing power and memory capacity of the 910C are double that of the 910B, with improvements in supporting diverse types of AI workload data. All sources were not authorized to speak to the media and requested anonymity. Huawei has not immediately responded to requests for comment. Sources said that Huawei distributed 910C samples to several technology companies at the end of last year and has begun accepting orders. Reuters could not confirm which companies are primarily responsible for producing the 910C. According to one source, China’s Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (0981.HK) is using its N+2 7-nanometer process technology to manufacture some core components of this GPU, although the chip yield is relatively low. One of the sources and a fourth individual stated that at least some of the 910C chips are being manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (2330.TW) for China's Sophgo.
