# Liu Qiangdong: If it weren't for self-operated, JD.com would have died long ago

> JD.com Chairman Liu Qiangdong stated at the sharing session that JD.com's success stems from its strategy: experience, cost, and efficiency. He emphasized that the lowest cost should not come at the expense of exploiting employees and promised to continuously improve employee compensation. He pointed out that without the advantages of JD.com's self-operated model, JD.com would have already failed in the e-commerce competition

Liu Qiangdong, Chairman of the Board of JD.com, stated at a sharing session today that the strategy that has brought JD.com to where it is today can be summed up in six words—experience, cost, efficiency. "The best experience, the lowest cost." Liu Qiangdong emphasized, "The lowest cost must not be built on the exploitation of employees, it cannot mean paying employees as little as possible or not contributing to social insurance and housing fund. I know it is very hard, perhaps harder than before, but I will continue to raise salaries, having increased them seven times in a year and a half. You can ask all the brothers; even those with the lowest income can see a 50% increase." Liu Qiangdong also mentioned that without JD.com's self-operated model as the only advantage, if it were just a pure platform model, JD.com would have long been out of the competition in the internet e-commerce sector
