Two Giants Announce: Rare Earth Price Increase!
On the evening of July 10, Northern Rare Earth and Baogang Co., Ltd. both announced plans to adjust the related transaction price of rare earth concentrates for the third quarter of 2025 to RMB 19,109 per ton (excluding tax, dry weight, REO=50%, same below). For every 1% increase or decrease in REO, the price will increase or decrease by RMB 382.18 per ton.
Guotou Securities released an industry research report stating that a rise in rare earth prices is expected. The report pointed out that on April 4, 2025, the export control on medium and heavy rare earths was implemented, restricting the export of seven items including dysprosium and terbium, which triggered panic in overseas supply chains. The prices of dysprosium and terbium in Europe skyrocketed, with domestic and foreign price differences exceeding three times. As magnet material companies gradually obtained export licenses in May, exports began to recover, and the price of praseodymium and neodymium oxide rose moderately. Currently, the industry chain is waiting for quota implementation, and it is expected that the overall quota for rare earths in 2025 will slow down year-on-year growth. On the demand side, the demand for new energy vehicles, wind power, and home appliances continues to grow rapidly, and it is expected that humanoid robots will enter mass production in the short term, quickly becoming an important application field for high-performance neodymium-iron-boron. Leading magnet material companies have begun to supply orders. With the continuous growth in demand, the supply and demand of praseodymium and neodymium may improve. The report predicts that a demand gap will appear in the global praseodymium and neodymium oxide market, and prices are expected to continue rising. As exports gradually recover, the price difference between domestic and foreign medium and heavy rare earths is expected to converge, and there is optimism about the price increase of domestic dysprosium oxide and terbium oxide.
