# Does the surge in electricity demand from electric vehicles and AI affect the green transition of energy? The National Energy Administration responds

> Du Zhongming, Director of the Power Department of the National Energy Administration, stated that since the "14th Five-Year Plan," emerging industries such as electric vehicles and artificial intelligence have driven the rapid growth of electricity demand in China. The National Energy Administration will be guided by the "15th Five-Year Plan" for the new power system planning to promote reasonable and green energy consumption, support economic and social development, and strive to achieve the transition from "using electricity" to "using electricity well."

Du Zhongming, Director of the Power Division of the National Energy Administration, said that since the 14th Five-Year Plan, advanced manufacturing represented by electric vehicles and the digital industry represented by artificial intelligence and big data have driven the rapid growth of electricity demand in China. In the next step, the National Energy Administration will be guided by the planning of the new power system for the 15th Five-Year Plan, adhere to the principle of moderately advancing electricity supply, actively guide reasonable energy consumption and green energy consumption, effectively support the electricity needs for economic and social development and the better life of the people, and strive to achieve the transition from "using electricity" to "using electricity well."
