# A U.S. jury ruled that Google violated the privacy of nearly 100 million users

> A U.S. jury ruled that Google violated the privacy rights of nearly 100 million users by deceiving them regarding the privacy switch in their account settings. Despite users turning on the privacy switch, Google continued to collect and store user data. The jury found that Google's actions violated California privacy laws but did not violate California's Computer Fraud and Abuse Act

A jury in the United States ruled that Google LLC violated the privacy rights of nearly 100 million Google users who requested not to have their account data tracked. The eight-member jury in the San Francisco federal court found that Google deceived users regarding the privacy switch in their account settings, which was purportedly designed to prevent the company from collecting user data in third-party applications. Even when users turned on the privacy switch, Google continued to retain data. The jury determined that the company's copying of their data violated California privacy laws. The jury found Google liable for invasion of privacy and privacy violations, but not in violation of California's Computer Fraud and Abuse Act
