# Roblox ‘Saddened’ Amid Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Teenager’s Suicide: ‘Tragic, Unimaginable Loss’

Roblox expressed deep sadness over the incident and emphasized its commitment to safety, highlighting the implementation of over 100 new safety features this year and plans to enhance age-estimation technology. The company aims to improve online safety for children and collaborates with law enforcement and child safety organizations.

Roblox is facing another legal battle over its child safety regulations, this one a wrongful death lawsuit tied to the suicide of a 15-year-old boy.

The lawsuit, according to the New York Times, is being filed in Superior Court by Becca Dallas following the death of her son Ethan Dallas, and is “likely the first of its kind” leveled against the gaming platform, which is currently facing multiple lawsuits filled with accusations of predatory behavior on the child-centric website.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic, unimaginable loss,” a Roblox spokesperson said Friday. “While we cannot comment on claims raised in litigation, and have not yet been served with this lawsuit, we always strive to hold ourselves to the highest safety standards. This includes strong processes to detect and act on problematic behaviors, stricter policies than other platforms and constant work to further improve our safety features.”

The latest lawsuit comes amid the implementation of additional safety features on Roblox, and the company’s goal of expanding its age-estimation technology to all of its users by the end of the year.

In an additional statement, a Roblox spokesperson added: “At Roblox, safety is a top priority and we are continually innovating new safety features – over 100 this year alone – that protect our users and empower parents and caregivers with greater control and visibility. Roblox is designed with rigorous built in safety features, and our policies are purposely stricter than those found on other platforms, including limiting chat for younger users, not allowing sharing images through chat and filters designed to block the sharing of personal information. We also understand that this is an industry-wide issue, and we are actively dedicating resources to develop industry-wide standards and solutions focused on keeping children safe online. We partner with law enforcement and leading child safety and mental health organizations worldwide to combat the sexual exploitation of children.”
