# Italian banks need consolidation to face Big Tech challenge, economy minister says

ROME, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Italian banks must consolidate to face challenges from Big Tech firms that will compete for their market share, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Sunday.

“The banking sector must consolidate, bearing in mind the challenge posed by giants such as Amazon (AMZN.O) and others that will compete for its market,” he said at a political event in Rome.
