The analysts noted pressures on crop protection valuations due to competition from low-cost Asian products and movements against pesticide use. They compared Corteva's potential split to FMC Corp's valuation. Corteva's stock price target was raised to $90 from $83, maintaining a buy rating, despite a 4% drop in shares on Monday, closing at $71.38. (MT Newswires) -- Corteva (CTVA) potentially separating its seed and pesticide businesses could unlock "substantial" value, Deutsche Bank analysts said in a note Monday. The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that Corteva is exploring a split of its seed and pesticide businesses into two separate entities. Analysts said there is growing pressure on crop protection valuation multiples from several areas, including low-priced Asian generic products, the Make America Healthy Movement, and their campaign against pesticide use, and precision agriculture, which lowers the usage of crop protection chemicals by farmers. Deutsche Bank said that the valuation multiples of FMC Corp (FMC), whose business is entirely based on crop protection, indicate the value Corteva could generate through the split. Two-thirds of Corteva's business is based on seeds, with the remaining focused on crop protection, it said. Analysts raised the stock's price target to $90 from $83, and retained a buy rating. Shares of the company were down 4% in recent Monday trading.
