# After receiving a 2% stake from Disney, the stock price of Webtoon surged nearly 90% in after-hours trading

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Disney (DIS.US) announced on Monday that it has reached a partnership with Webtoon Entertainment (WBTN.US) to jointly develop a digital platform that will feature classic comic content from Disney. Disney will also acquire a 2% stake in the digital comic platform. Following this news, Webtoon's stock price surged nearly 90% in after-hours trading.

Currently, the financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

The upcoming new platform will include over 35,000 classic and contemporary comic works from Disney's brands such as Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios, with some content being localized for Webtoon's platforms in South Korea and Japan.

An official statement added, "The new platform will offer both vertical and traditional format comics, covering archived works, ongoing serialized comics, and original stories."

The platform will be developed and operated by Webtoon and will be accessible to existing Marvel Unlimited subscribers. Additionally, Disney+ subscribers will also have free access to the comic content in the new app through the "Disney+ Perks program."

This collaboration is based on a preliminary agreement announced by both parties in August of this year. According to the previous agreement, Disney's IP has already been made available on Webtoon in a vertical reading format mobile application
