# Macau: In 2024, the total revenue of the gaming industry is expected to increase by 23.1% year-on-year to MOP 231.45 billion

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, on September 17, the Macao Statistics and Census Service's 2024 Gaming Industry Survey data shows that with the steady recovery of tourism activities in 2024, the industry is gradually recovering overall, with both industry revenue and expenditure increasing accordingly. The total annual revenue (including gaming and other income) rose by 23.1% year-on-year to MOP 231.45 billion.

The total industry expenditure (excluding taxes) recorded an 18.0% increase year-on-year to MOP 94.37 billion. Within the total expenditure, operating expenses (MOP 40.58 billion) and purchases, commissions, and customer rebates (MOP 23.20 billion) both increased by 28.0% year-on-year, while employee expenditure (MOP 21.48 billion) also rose by 7.0%. On the other hand, non-operating expenses, including interest and depreciation, decreased by 9.6% year-on-year to MOP 9.10 billion.

Within operating expenses, the expenditure on goods and services provided free of charge to customers, such as hotel rooms and dining (MOP 25.58 billion), increased by 31.1% year-on-year. Management services and third-party services (MOP 6.99 billion) and market research and promotional expenses (MOP 2.67 billion) also rose by 29.4% and 28.0%, respectively. The industry's profit before tax increased by 24.7% year-on-year to MOP 143.12 billion.

The data indicates that the gaming industry survey primarily collects statistical data related to gaming activities from enterprises. In 2024, there were a total of 9 enterprises operating gaming activities, of which 1 ceased gaming operations during the reference year; at the end of the period, there were 6 licensed gaming enterprises and 2 lottery-operating enterprises. Data from hotels and retail businesses operating within the enterprises were not included
