# The unemployment rate in Australia remained at 4.2% in August, in line with expectations, while the number of employed decreased by 5,400, falling short of expectations

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) announced that after seasonal adjustment, Australia's unemployment rate remained at 4.2% in August, the same as the previous value, in line with market expectations.

In August, Australia's employment decreased by approximately 5,400 people, far below the market expectation of an increase of 21,000 people, with the previous value revised to an increase of 26,500 people. The number of unemployed decreased by approximately 1,000 people. The participation rate dropped by 0.1 percentage points to 66.8%.

The employment-to-population ratio decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 64%.

During the period, full-time employment decreased by 40,900 people, while part-time employment increased by 36,000 people. The number of full-time employed women decreased by 30,000, and the number of full-time employed men decreased by 11,000. The number of part-time employed women and men increased by 18,000 and 17,000, respectively
