# TikTok Stays Online As Trump Extends US Deadline, Washington Still Demands ByteDance Divestment

> U.S. President Trump announced an extension of TikTok's U.S. divestment deadline to December 16, allowing the app to continue operating while negotiations with China progress. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reported progress on a TikTok deal during their recent call, but no consensus was reached. The U.S. government insists that ByteDance must fully divest TikTok's U.S. operations due to national security concerns. Meanwhile, TikTok's rivals, Meta and Snap, saw declines in their stock prices.

U.S. President Donald Trump said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping made progress on a TikTok deal and agreed to meet in South Korea in just over a month. TikTok rivals Facebook, Instagram parent Meta Platforms META and Snapchat owner Snap SNAP all traded lower on Friday.
