# New phone imports WeChat chat history but shows insufficient space? WeChat employee: There is a bug in the code, which will be fixed soon

> WeChat employees stated that there is a code bug regarding the issue of insufficient space displayed when importing chat records to new phones, which will be fixed soon. This bug originates from the interface that retrieves remaining space, returning incorrect data within 5 minutes of booting up, leading users to mistakenly believe that the device has insufficient space. The WeChat team has apologized to affected users

On the evening of September 21, in response to WeChat users importing chat records to new phones but receiving a message indicating insufficient device space, WeChat employee @KeCunXiaoJiang stated that there is a bug in WeChat's code that will be fixed soon, and he apologized to all affected users. "We have a universal tool interface to obtain remaining space, but there is a cache within this interface. If the retrieval interval is less than 5 minutes, it will not obtain the actual remaining space from the system. The intention was to avoid performance issues caused by frequent reads of the system interface, but on new phones, this situation may occur because the logic returns 0 data within 5 minutes of booting up. After using the phone for 5 minutes post-boot, the interface can obtain the actual remaining space, and it will be normal," he wrote
