The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, stated at a press conference last Saturday (20th) that the current innovation and technology land development is mainly located in the Northern Metropolis. The first three buildings of the Hong Kong Science Park in the Lok Ma Chau Loop have been completed, and tenants from pillar industries such as life and health technology, microelectronics, new energy, and artificial intelligence (AI) are gradually moving in. The remaining five buildings of the first phase will be completed successively starting in 2027. Sun Dong mentioned that the approximately 210-hectare innovation and technology land in the San Tin Technopole is a strategic base for the innovation and technology industry. The government will announce the "Development Planning Concept Outline for the San Tin Technopole Innovation and Technology Industry" within this year, covering top-level design, industry positioning and layout, coordinated development of various areas, and strategies to guide market resources into development. As for the Sha Ling area in the North District, about 10 hectares of data park development land will be put out to market tender within this year, providing advanced computing facilities. Sun Dong indicated that to promote AI development and talent advantages, the "Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute" will be established in 2026; the HKD 3 billion "Frontier Technology Research Support Program" will also accept applications in the short term to fund the eight major universities in attracting top international talent for cutting-edge technology research, including AI. It will also promote the early realization of cross-border data flow from the mainland to the Hong Kong Science Park for research purposes under compliance and security guarantees. Meanwhile, the Innovation and Technology Bureau will support SMEs in applying AI by optimizing the "Digital Transformation Support Pilot Program" of Cyberport to match funding to empower SMEs in applying AI and cybersecurity solutions, enhancing competitiveness and information security.
