# World Steel Association: Global crude steel production in August increased by 0.3% year-on-year, reaching 145.3 million tons

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, on September 24, the World Steel Association released the global crude steel production for August 2025. The data shows that the crude steel production in 70 countries/regions included in the World Steel Association's statistics for August 2025 is 145.3 million tons, an increase of 0.3% year-on-year. From January to August, the global crude steel production decreased by 1.7% year-on-year, totaling 1.2306 billion tons.

**Crude Steel Production by Region**

In August 2025, Africa's crude steel production was 1.8 million tons, a decrease of 3.8% year-on-year; Asia and Oceania's crude steel production was 107.7 million tons, an increase of 0.4% year-on-year; the European Union (27 countries) produced 8.8 million tons of crude steel, a decrease of 2.8% year-on-year; other European countries produced 3.7 million tons, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year; the Middle East produced 3.8 million tons, an increase of 21.5% year-on-year; North America's crude steel production was 9.1 million tons, an increase of 1.6% year-on-year; Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine produced 6.7 million tons, a decrease of 4.9% year-on-year; South America's crude steel production was 3.6 million tons, a decrease of 5%.

The data submitted by the aforementioned 70 countries/regions accounts for 98% of the global crude steel production in 2024. The countries and regions included in the table are:

Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia

Asia and Oceania: Australia, China, India, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan Province of China, Thailand, Vietnam

European Union (27 countries): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden

Other European countries: Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom

Middle East: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Yemen

North America: Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, United States

Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine

South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela
