# European stocks fell in early trading, oil stocks were weak, and pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk dropped over 3%

European stocks fell in early trading, influenced by energy and healthcare stocks. The market is watching for the potential impact of a U.S. government shutdown on economic data releases.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index fell by 1.78 points or 0.3%, closing at 553.75 points. The UK FTSE 100 index dropped by 27 points or 0.3%, closing at 9,272 points; the French CAC 40 index decreased by 44 points or 0.6%, closing at 7,836 points; the German DAX index fell by 50 points or 0.2%, closing at 23,694 points; the Spanish IBEX 35 index declined by 24 points or 0.2%, closing at 15,291 points; the Italian FTSE MIB index dropped by 175 points or 0.4%, closing at 42,379 points.

In terms of individual stocks, crude oil futures fell by 3% overnight, with oil stocks such as TotalEnergies down by 2.2%, and Shell, BP, and Equinor down by 1% to 1.3%. Mining stocks like BHP fell by 2.9%, pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk fell by 3.2%, and AstraZeneca also dropped by 0.9%. Airline stocks Air France-KLM and Lufthansa fell by 2% and 3.9%, respectively.

In U.S. stock futures, Dow futures fell by 100 points to 46,512 points; S&P 500 futures dropped by 12 points to 6,701 points; and Nasdaq 100 futures fell by 48 points to 24,789 points.

In the Asia-Pacific stock markets, the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets rose by 0.5% and 0.4%, respectively, the Hang Seng Index increased by 232 points or 0.9%, closing at 26,855 points, with a turnover of 314.9 billion yuan. The Taiwan stock market rose by 0.9%, while the Japanese, South Korean, and Australian stock markets fell by 0.2%. The New Zealand stock market rose by 1.2%. The Indian Nifty 50 index rose by 3 points to 24,638 points. The Singapore Straits Times Index rose by 21 points or 0.5%, closing at 4,291 points. The Malaysian stock market fell by less than 0.1%, while the Indonesian and Thai stock markets fell by 0.9%, and the Vietnamese markets in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City fell by 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively. The Philippine stock market fell by 0.7%
