# Singapore plans to delay implementation of Basel capital requirements for crypto assets

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has released a consultation summary, indicating that it will postpone the implementation of new bank capital regulations based on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's crypto asset regulatory standards. Singapore originally planned to implement the Basel crypto asset capital regulations on January 1, 2026, but now plans to postpone implementation to January 1, 2027, or later. At the same time, banks that already hold or intend to hold crypto asset risk exposures will be required to inform the MAS of the appropriate prudent handling of their crypto asset risk exposures and maintain communication with the MAS before the new regulations are finally implemented. It is reported that the Basel crypto asset capital regulations are very important for banks in countries that intend to adopt them, as they stipulate how much regulatory capital banks must hold for their crypto asset risk exposures.
