Recently, eSIM phones have become a hot topic. As everyone knows, the commonly used physical SIM card is called a SIM card, while the eSIM card is a virtual electronic SIM card.

What is eSIM?

eSIM phones replace physical cards with data files of electronic SIM cards, allowing users to activate mobile communication network services without inserting a physical card. The absence of a physical card slot makes devices like phones thinner and provides more expandable internal space.

Previously, eSIM technology had been applied in fields such as the Internet of Things and smart wearables in China. This approval signifies a formal entry into a new phase of commercial use for mobile phones.

China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom all announced on October 13th that they have officially received approval to conduct commercial trials for eSIM phone operations. During the commercial trial period, the three companies will not open online applications; users can go to service centers to activate their eSIM phones.
