# Elon Musk claims he believes Starship will send humans to Mars

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk stated during an interaction with netizens on the social platform X: "I believe the Starship will take humanity to Mars. The path is clear. But what really matters is ensuring the future of consciousness, not just sending a small number of people to Mars. This may require transporting over 100,000 people and 1 million tons of cargo to Mars. The key threshold to cross is that even if supply ships from Earth stop arriving at Mars for any reason, Mars can still grow."
