Chip manufacturer Texas Instruments (TXN.US) announced that its earnings per share for the third quarter were $1.48, slightly lower than the expected $1.49; revenue was $4.74 billion, which exceeded expectations, mainly due to the continued growth in demand in the personal electronics terminal market. The stock price fell more than 8% in after-hours trading.

The company expects fourth-quarter revenue to be between $4.22 billion and $4.58 billion, slightly lower than the previously expected $4.51 billion; earnings per share are expected to be between $1.13 and $1.39, lower than the expected $1.41
