# BP Pulse to expand fast-charging presence in London

> BP Pulse is expanding its fast-charging network in London by extending its partnership with Transport for London (TfL) until at least 2029. Since 2018, over 150 chargers have been installed, with recent upgrades resulting in 130 new chargers. The fourth phase of upgrades is set to add five more chargers by the end of November. The future focus on dedicated EV charging hubs or on-street charging remains uncertain, but demand for the new chargers is increasing, highlighting the need for improved EV infrastructure for taxis and ride-hailing services.

This partnership, which has been in place since 2018, has seen BP Pulse and TfL create a network of 150 fast chargers and then pursue a phased upgrade programme. This upgrade scheme has seen the older units installed in 2018 upgraded with new charging technology in five stages.

BP Pulse has said that phases one, two, and three of the upgrade programme are already complete and have resulted in 130 new chargers, while the fourth phase will see an additional five chargers upgraded by the end of November.

What this looks like in practice isn’t yet clear: BP has simply said that “TfL will continue to partner with bp pulse” regarding on-street fast charging in London. There’s no word on next steps, only that the agreement will run until at least 2029.

However, recent installations, such as the charging site in Hammersmith, London, could provide some hints as to what the future will hold. Opened in February 2025, the Hammersmith site is BP Pulse’s first dedicated EV charging hub in the UK and features five 300kW fast chargers with a roof canopy and a convenience store. Whether BP Pulse and TfL will focus on dedicated sites such as these, or more on-street charging, remains to be seen.

Valerio Ferro, General Manager of BP Pulse UK, said: “We are delighted to extend our agreement with TfL to 2029. We’ve been working hard to upgrade the charging infrastructure across London and we’re about to enter the final phase of the upgrade. We’re seeing increased demand on the new chargers, showing how important it is for taxis and ride hails to have the EV infrastructure in the right places.”
