# The U.S. Department of Commerce denies that the Trump administration is negotiating to acquire a stake in quantum computing companies, related stock prices continue to rise

> The U.S. Department of Commerce denied reports of negotiating equity stakes with quantum computing companies in exchange for federal government funding. Nevertheless, the stock prices of IonQ, Rigetti, and D-Wave Quantum still rose, increasing by 7.1%, 9.8%, and 13.8% respectively on the 23rd, and continued to rise in after-hours trading

A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Commerce stated that the U.S. government has not discussed equity stakes with quantum computing companies in exchange for federal funding. The statement noted that the Department of Commerce is currently not in discussions regarding equity stakes with quantum computing companies.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration was in talks with IonQ (IONQ.US), Rigetti (RGTI.US), and D-Wave Quantum (QBTS.US) regarding equity stakes.

IonQ and Rigetti saw their stock prices rise by 7.1% and 9.8% respectively yesterday (23rd), while D-Wave rose by 13.8%. The three stocks increased by 3.4%, 2.8%, and 6.3% respectively in after-hours trading
