# Johnson & Johnson's talcum powder cancer lawsuit cases increase by 17%

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.US) plans to resolve its massive litigation pressure through bankruptcy proceedings, after new lawsuits claiming its baby powder causes cancer increased by 17%.

In a filing with the securities market, the company stated that as of the end of September, Johnson & Johnson is facing approximately 73,570 consumer lawsuits, with consumers attributing their illnesses to baby powder, a significant increase of 17% compared to the number of lawsuits reported by the company in December last year.

Earlier this month, a California jury ruled that Johnson & Johnson must pay $966 million to the family of a deceased individual who developed cancer after long-term use of baby powder, and the company indicated that it would appeal. Johnson & Johnson has withdrawn talc-based baby powder from the market in 2023 and replaced it with a corn starch alternative
