# Amazon plans to lay off 30,000 employees

Three insiders said that Amazon plans to lay off up to 30,000 employees starting Tuesday as the company seeks to cut costs and make up for overhiring during the pandemic peak.

This number represents only a small portion of Amazon's total workforce of 1.55 million, but nearly 10% of the company's approximately 350,000 employees. This would be the largest layoff at Amazon since the end of 2022, when the company had already laid off about 27,000 employees
