U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basset stated, "We will conduct a second round of interviews and hope to submit a list of candidates to the President sometime after Thanksgiving, in early December." He added, "The final decision rests with him, and it is conceivable that we will identify a candidate before Christmas." Basset also expressed appreciation for the Federal Reserve's 25 basis point rate cut but did not like its wording
