# Trump temporarily relaxes the Environmental Protection Agency's restrictions on copper content emission standards in the United States

This measure applies to Freeport-McMoRan's smelter located in Miami, and Trump emphasized that the source of the exemption must still comply with previous emission standards. U.S. President Trump approved a two-year exemption for domestic copper smelters from new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emission standards on Friday.

The measure temporarily suspends the "Copper Rule," which includes new emission control requirements and applies to Freeport-McMoRan's (FCX.US) smelter located in Miami, Arizona. Trump emphasized that fixed sources granted the exemption will still comply with the applicable emission standards and compliance obligations prior to the Copper Rule.

The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to reassess the impact of the rule before the exemption period ends in 2027
