# MMG: The European Commission will launch a second-phase merger investigation into the acquisition of Anglo American's Brazilian nickel business

According to the Zhitong Finance APP, MMG (01208) announced that it has entered into a conditional agreement to acquire the nickel business of Anglo American in Brazil. The company's obligation to complete the acquisition from Anglo American is subject to the fulfillment or waiver of several conditions precedent, including: obtaining merger control approvals in multiple jurisdictions; acceptance of the filing related to the acquisition by the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China; and acceptance of the filing related to the acquisition by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

Given that all other conditions have been met, the European Commission has announced today that it will initiate a second-phase merger investigation into the acquisition. The second phase will involve a detailed review of the relevant information to ensure that the European Commission can confirm that there are no substantial anti-competitive concerns regarding the acquisition
