# Nobel Prize in Economics winner Michael Spence: The development of artificial intelligence in China and the United States is "basically on par"

On November 13th, Nobel laureate in economics Michael Spence stated at the Taihu World Cultural Forum - Qiantang Dialogue that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in both China and the United States is further accelerating, and the gap between the two countries is narrowing. "In my view, the development of AI in both countries is now basically on par." Spence noted that although China faces various restrictions in semiconductor products, both sides have made significant breakthroughs in quantum computing
