# Microsoft: Starting next year, over $10 billion will be invested in AI infrastructure in Portugal

Microsoft (MSFT.US) announced that Vice Chairman and President Brad Smith, during his visit to Lisbon, Portugal for the Web Summit, unveiled a historic investment in the country's artificial intelligence infrastructure. Microsoft will collaborate with Nscale, Nvidia (NVDA.US), and Start Campus to deploy 12,600 next-generation Nvidia GPUs in Sines, setting a new benchmark for digital infrastructure in Europe.

This plan represents Microsoft's largest investment in Portugal and is the largest data center deal in the country to date. The tech giant will begin investing over $10 billion starting in early 2026. This is also one of the largest investments in artificial intelligence computing capacity in Europe, positioning Portugal as a leader in scalable, secure, and sustainable AI development.

The infrastructure will support advanced AI workloads across multiple industries and aligns with Microsoft's commitment to digitizing Europe, which aims to double the data center capacity in 16 European countries by 2027.

Smith stated that this collaboration reflects Microsoft's confidence in Portugal's potential to lead the next wave of AI innovation. By strengthening the national AI infrastructure through partnerships with Nscale, Nvidia, and Start Campus, Microsoft is helping Portugal become a benchmark for responsible and scalable AI development in Europe.
