# Ning Hanhao expects to pilot centralized procurement of steel bars and assembled synthetic components and other materials in the first half of next year

The Director of the Development Bureau, Ning Hanhao, stated at the "Building Safety Seminar" held by the Buildings Department last Friday (14th) that utilizing new technologies to enhance building safety and efficiency is an inevitable trend. The government is actively promoting the digitalization of the construction industry, including encouraging the widespread application of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the industry. A revised roadmap is planned to be announced by the end of this year to gradually expand the application of BIM technology to private projects of various scales.

Regarding construction and site safety, Ning Hanhao mentioned that the government is actively promoting the "Modular Integrated Construction" (MiC) method. Earlier, a facilitation guide for "Modular Integrated Construction" was released, and a certification program for MiC manufacturers was implemented to promote more MiC projects. The government will trial centralized procurement of commonly used materials such as rebar and MiC components in the first half of next year and will implement a "Cost Control Digital Platform" to establish a market price database. In addition, the government continues to promote the widespread adoption of the "Smart Safety Site" system (4S), with over 550 public and private construction sites having received the "Smart Safety Site" system label to date.

Ning Hanhao pointed out that the application of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence is particularly important for the work of the Buildings Department. He hopes to strengthen collaboration with the industry in more related areas, including building maintenance, building safety design, and data interoperability of government digital platforms, to jointly promote the application of more innovative technologies.

The Director of the Buildings Department, He Zhenxiong, stated that the department actively inspects the external walls of buildings with higher potential risks and uses drones and artificial intelligence to assist in inspecting and analyzing deficiencies in the external walls. To enhance law enforcement efficiency, the department launched an electronic "Case Management and Reporting Platform" last month, which automatically issues warning letters for overdue statutory orders and notifications, replacing the previous manual letter preparation process. Owners can also log into the platform through the Buildings Department's website or by scanning the QR code on the letter to report compliance with orders or notifications.

He Zhenxiong indicated that the Buildings Department will continue to work hand in hand with the industry to seize opportunities for technological development and digital transformation, jointly building a safer and more sustainable built environment
