# MD-11 freighter involved in fatal accident continues to be grounded, UPS and FedEx logistics may be disrupted

Last month, the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 cargo plane involved in a fatal accident in Kentucky, USA, may have its grounding period extended indefinitely, affecting cargo companies such as UPS (UPS.US) and FedEx (FDX.US).

Tom Romnios, Vice President of Human Resources at the Florida-based cargo airline Western Global Airlines, stated that the MD-11 will require a thorough inspection, as well as repairs and component replacements, and revealed that the company has begun mandatory leave for pilots since November 22.

The accident occurred on the 4th of last month when a UPS-operated MD-11F lost its left engine shortly after takeoff from the main hub in Louisville, Kentucky, failing to climb more than 30 feet before crashing, resulting in the deaths of 14 people, including crew members and ground personnel
